How YC's timing works

On-time deadlineNov 2, 2026 at 8pm PT for the Winter 2027 batch, which runs January to March in person in San Francisco. Apply on time and YC promises a decision by Dec 11.
If you apply lateYC still reads late applications but gives no fixed reply date. It says most late applications get a decision within a month, with no guarantee, that it funds many companies that apply late every batch, and that it can't mark a late application as on time.
Late or wait for the next batch?YC's own answer: if you're ready to do YC, apply now rather than waiting.
Interviews and decisionsPromising applicants are invited to interview, mostly by video in November and December. YC typically decides the same day as the interview and gives everyone who interviews detailed feedback.
Early DecisionYou can apply now for a later batch (Spring, Summer or Fall). It's the same application and interview: in the batch question, pick “A batch after Winter 2027” and say which batch you want. If you're accepted, YC funds you right away and holds your spot. It's built for students who want to graduate first, but YC's FAQ says anyone for whom this batch is bad timing can apply to a later one.
Fundraising right now?Apply now and say so in the application. If you're accepted, YC starts the investment process immediately instead of waiting for the batch.
Applied before?Apply again: YC says about half the companies in a typical batch applied more than once, and progress since the last application is a strong signal. One application per batch, you fill out a new one each time, and recommendations carry over.
Solo founder or just an idea?YC regularly accepts solo founders (it still recommends a co-founder) and says about 40% of the companies it funds each batch are just an idea.
The money$500,000 total: $125,000 on a post-money SAFE for a fixed 7%, plus $375K uncapped MFN SAFE (converts later). No fees.
